The Table Pouncer team were set the task of finding the best steak in Bath - not an easy job. Here’s what we found.

We always knew a lot of restaurants work closely with local suppliers of ingredients, turning this produce into great plates of food. But which restaurants use this to their advantage and serve the best steak in Bath?  The classic steak is one of the most prized ingredients in the culinary world - it’s the cut of beef that gets meat lovers salivating at just the thought of it. Check out the list below to see which restaurants have the tenderest, juiciest steaks in town.

Tasty Surf and Turf from Hudson Steakhouse Surf and Turf at Hudson Steakhouse

Hudson Steakhouse

It’s only fair that we start with a restaurant where the menu is built around this succulent meaty cut. The Hudson Steakhouse is located in a recently renovated Victorian pub. Although, make no mistake, you will not find your traditional range of pub grub here. The menu’s main star is steak, in all its shapes and sizes. The Hudson Steakhouse has all the traditional cuts on offer, from rib eye to great hulking slabs of T-bone. If you find that the weight of their cuts are not what you want, you can request a custom weight to be set aside for you in advance.

The Herd

Another bonafide steakhouse here, and one which easily makes it into the best steakhouses in Bath. The Herd is stylishly designed, with the restaurant being decorated using a black and white theme in homage to the humble cow. And why not? Cows are central to this mouthwatering menu, providing the premium cuts that the restaurant serve up every day. The staff are friendly and extremely knowledgeable, which makes this the perfect setting to sink your teeth into some meaty goodness.

The Hit or Miss Inn

This country pub sits just outside Bath, located in Kington Langley, and it has one of the most inspired menus in the area. As well as the fillet and rib eye steaks that appear on the menu, they also carry a homely steak and ale pie, which is great if you fancy steak, but not just a slice of it on its own. This place will have seafood addicts drooling too, thanks to the bucket of fish, crab and cockles. Check this place out if you need somewhere that has a menu with lots of variety.

Relaxing atmosphere at Graze in Bath Enjoy a relaxed dining experience at Graze

Graze is another eatery that pays tribute to the cows that provide it with its star ingredient. The menu at Graze does include a lot more than just steaks, mind you. There are fantastic pork, lamb and fish dishes on the menu too. However, if you are reading this, we bet you are interested in the beef. The restaurant only uses quality 28 day hung beef, and serves cuts of flat iron, sirloin, rib eye and mammoth sharing steaks (but for the big ones, you need to let them know this is what you want 48 hours in advance).

Cowshed Bath

Cowshed are committed to serving good locally sourced food in a comfortable and relaxed environment. At this Bath restaurant they are focussed on “simple things, done well” and that is clear from their simple yet alluring menu which is sure to get your tastebuds tingling. So hungry you could eat a 900g T-bone or a 850g Tomahawk? Well Cowshed has the meat that you’re craving. If your appetite is a bit smaller then don’t worry, there are more manageable sized steaks on offer too!

Fat Fowl

Fat Fowl is located in Bradford upon Avon, just outside of Bath. The restaurant has a great menu and even includes a couple of nice sounding vegetarian options. Again, a large chunk of the menu is dedicated to steaks. Steaks are aged for 28 days and come with chunky chips and slow cooked field mushrooms - a tried and tested combination. This one is worth checking out if you fancy a meaty hunk of beef for dinner, but your dinner date has other ideas.

Marlborough Tavern

The Marlborough Tavern is not as steak orientated as the other restaurants on this list, with the gastropub only having one steak-based entry on its menu. But boy is it a corker; 28-day aged ruby red steak served with triple cooked chips (the type pioneered by culinary oddball Heston Blumenthal), and the classic accompaniments of field mushrooms and roasted tomatoes. A fantastic plate of food that definitely deserves its place on this list.
