With its cosy feel and rustic yet contemporary decor, The Dancing Duck in Westbourne is a great choice whether you’re with a big group or looking for a classy night out for two. On the menu you’ll find everything from burgers and tacos to tapas dishes, and they do a great line in full English breakfasts in the morning. Wash it all down with a range of beers, wines or cocktails - the frozen margaritas are a must-try...
The Dancing Duck, 100-102 Poole Road, Westbourne, Bournemouth, BH4 9EF
The Inferno’s comfy sofas and relaxed vibe mean that to us, it definitely feels like a home away from home. Whether you’re after a game of pool, sport on the big screens, a quiz night or just want to soak up the sun in a beer garden, it’s got it all. It’s a popular choice amongst the students, but everyone’s made to feel welcome. The Inferno’s known for its craft beers and cask ales, which change regularly - check out the amazing selection from the US that’s always on offer.
The Inferno, 38 Holdenhurst Road, Bournemouth, BH8 8AD
With its regular range of Wadworth ales plus up to 11 different guest ales that change every few days, The Goat & Tricycle is a beer drinker’s heaven. We love its classic green tiled frontage and its eclectic decor - there’s no shortage of things to look at! The beer garden is a lovely suntrap, and we love the focus on using local ingredients on their food menu too: with burgers, pies and fantastic fish and chips, it’s pub grub done very well indeed.
The Goat & Tricycle, 27-29 Westhill Road, Bournemouth, BH2 5PF
It’s the shiny brass fittings that give The Brasshouse its name - it’s an enormous place that’s previously been a dance hall, a cinema and more. Despite its size, it has a cosy and relaxed feel and there’s lots to keep you entertained: think live sports on TV, karaoke nights, table football, games machines and more. From craft beer and cider to cheeky cocktails (try the Pear Drop Punch!), the drinks menu’s extensive, and we love their food too: their noodle bowls offer loads of choice, huge portions and amazing flavours.
The Brasshouse, 8-9 Westover Road, Bournemouth, BH1 2BY
The sister bar of Buffalo Bar in Winton and The Anvil in Lansdowne, The Four Horsemen is one of our favourite places to stop for a drink after a day’s shopping. Step inside and you’ll be transported into an eclectic world filled with goth memorabilia, taxidermied insects, music memorabilia and stuffed animal heads...and a huge array of beers from pale ales and porters to saisons and stouts. Be sure to try the burgers too!
The Four Horsemen, 77-79 Commercial Road, Bournemouth, BH2 5RT
There’s a reason why The Porterhouse has been named East Dorset Pub of the Year no fewer than six times...head to Westbourne and you’ll find out for yourself! This is a proper pub packed full of character: its wooden floor and bar panelling, Ringwood beers and plenty of guest choices, board games and books make it the perfect place to while away the hours. There’s an open mic night on Mondays, a great quiz on Tuesdays and a traditional meat draw on Saturday nights...it has a different feel every night of the week, which we love.
The Porterhouse, 113 Poole Road, Westbourne, Bournemouth, BH4 9BG
A pub within a hotel might not seem like an obvious choice, but The Overcliff boasts sea views, cask ales from Sharps and a lovely casual dining environment, with children welcome until the early evening. There’s a quiz night every Thursday, and the menu’s packed full of pub classics from fish and chips to sausages and mash and ham, egg and chips. We love the retro desserts too: if you’ve a hankering for a black forest gateau or a sherry trifle, you know where to go...
The Overcliff Pub & Kitchen, The Suncliff Hotel, 29 East Overcliff Drive, Bournemouth, BH1 3AG
If you’re looking for a rustic country pub, head out to The Curlew in West Parley: a Vintage Inns pub that’s one of our favourite choices for a Sunday lunch. Why? Well, we love the beautiful shabby chic interior, the staff are so friendly and helpful, and the food is top notch. Try the roast beef duo for two (perfectly cooked roast beef plus a meltingly tender slow-cooked short rib of beef), and save space for the sticky toffee and apple pudding, which is seriously naughty...
The Curlew, 287 Christchurch Road, West Parley, Bournemouth, BH22 8SQ
This is a bar with a seriously quirky feel, a friendly and buzzing atmosphere and warm and welcoming staff. If you’re looking for somewhere to eat or drink before a trip to the BIC, this is the place to be: there’s a huge choice of beers and spirits available, and the food menu offers comfort food at its finest: the Katsu Burger (a Southern fried chicken burger smothered in a sweet katsu curry sauce) is our favourite...
