French cuisine is perennially popular, and is often classed as one of the world’s great culinary traditions. If you fancy dining at a French restaurant, Bournemouth has some truly shining examples of what the country’s food and drink scene has to offer. From intimate venues perfect for a date night to brasserie-style offerings for meals out with friends or family, our TablePouncer bloggers have rounded up their top French restaurants in Bournemouth to make it even easier for you to plan your next meal out...
Isabel’s is a beautifully quirky and quaint place to dine, with larger tables for big groups and booth-style seating for intimate meals for two. The Michelin-recommended restaurant offers set menus, a bistro menu and the a la carte menu, and even a separate menu for vegetarian diners. We love the cheese soufflé with a blue cheese sauce, as well as their beautifully cooked steaks.
Isabel’s Restaurant, 32 Station Road, Lower Parkstone, Poole, BH14 8UD
The Poole branch of this smart hotel group offers a menu inspired by French-style home cooking, served in an atmospheric dining room that’s packed full of character. Expect a great fine dining experience with service to match the food, and we love the helpful sommelier who’s happy to make wine recommendations to accompany your food choices. You’ll find classics such as chicken liver parfait and steaks, as well as seasonally changing new additions with a modern twist.
Hotel du Vin Bistro, Thames Street, Poole, BH15 1JN
This French restaurant in Poole specialises in seafood - and the fishy theme carries through to their lively blue and white nautically-themed dining room. We’re huge fans of its fantastic service and great house wine, as well as its extensive menu that offers something to suit all tastes. From classic moules marinières and a filling bouillabaisse soup to a slow-cooked salmon fillet with an olive oil marinade, fresh asparagus and a vanilla and pink peppercorn dressing, it’s a seafood lover’s paradise.
Guildhall Tavern, 15 Market Street, Poole, BH15 1NB
The Escoffier is a restaurant with a difference: it’s located on Bournemouth & Poole College’s Lansdowne Campus, and is entirely staffed by catering students. It’s the place we go to enjoy a fine dining experience at incredible value for money, and open lunchtimes and on three evenings a week. Dishes could include chicken and leek pithivier, chocolate crème brûlée and shellfish terrine among others - menus change regularly throughout the year.
