From great seafood to local Dorset cheeses, from locally reared meat to traditional cream teas, Bournemouth residents and visitors alike are spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing somewhere to dine out. But where are the best places to eat in Bournemouth? Our TablePouncer bloggers are the ones in the know: whether you’re looking for a romantic meal for two, a casual lunch or a night out with friends, here are their top picks...
At Restaurant Roots fantastic service, innovative food and a beautiful contemporary dining room together to create arguably the town’s best dining experience. Here it’s all about tasting menus, with a choice of a 5 or 7 course option (with veggie menus available) showcasing some serious talent. Deservedly at the top of our list.
Restaurant Roots, 141 Belle Vue Road, Bournemouth, BH6 3EN
Just a 5 minute walk from the beach, European restaurant Miri’s makes us feel like we’re in the Med with its classic décor and frontage that’s completely opened up in the summer. It’s a family-run restaurant where great service comes with the territory: try the rich confit duck leg or the decadent chicken cordon bleu, and you won’t be disappointed.
Miri’s Restaurant, 53 Bourne Avenue, Bournemouth, BH2 6DW
With its inviting atmosphere, friendly service and huge range of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes on offer, it’s no wonder Charminster’s Laluna Restaurant is so popular. Our favourite dishes include the lamb kabsa, served with rice flecked with sultanas, onions, peppers and nuts; and the mixed grill, which is packed full of flavour. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, and it’s the perfect place for a family meal out.
Laluna Restaurant, 125 Charminster Road, Charminster, BH8 8UD
Eat Pho is the perfect choice for when we’re looking for a healthy dining option - or who simply want to enjoy the clean, fresh flavours of Vietnamese food. The décor is fairly basic, but don’t let that fool you: the big, steaming bowls of noodle soup, served with all sorts of condiments, are out of this world. Their slow-cooked broth is packed full of flavour - and there’s plenty of alternative rice and noodle dishes to choose from too.
Eat Pho, 210 Old Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, BH1 1PD
In a seaside location, there’s nothing better than a portion of freshly cooked fish and chips - and you can’t get much better than Chez Fred. Fred’s has been around and run by the same family since 1989, and they’re massively committed to great food: they use healthier oils (groundnut and rapeseed) for their fish and chips, we’re addicted to their twice-fried chips with a great crispy finish, and they make their own mushy peas. Order a side of their homemade curry sauce - it’s amazing!
Chez Fred, 10 Seamoor Road, Bournemouth, BH4 9AN
With its moody, opulent décor, the Ventana Grand Cafe at The Cumberland Hotel screams luxury, and with its 2 AA Rosettes it definitely warrants a place on this list. Service is professional and attentive, and the menu offers something for all tastes. There are plenty of local ingredients on the menu too: our favourites are their local seafood dishes, prepared in all sorts of exciting ways.
Ventana Grand Cafe, The Cumberland Hotel, East Overcliff Drive, Bournemouth, BH1 3AF
Smart restaurant The Luxor specialises in authentic Lebanese dishes, and caters well for special dietary requirements. We love the amazing smoky flavour that the charcoal grill gives to their main course dishes, and we definitely recommend sampling some of the mezze to start: the hummus falafel and baba ghanouj are among the best in Bournemouth.
Luxor Restaurant, 67 Charminster Road, Charminster, BH8 8UE
