Many restaurants claim to have the best pizza in Bournemouth, so in the interest of science we decided to put them to the test. Pizza is one of our favourite dishes of all time, comes in many shapes and sizes, and although it’s a simple dish it’s hard to get perfect. The crust should be light and thin, and the topping should be fresh, interesting and full of flavour. Carry on reading to see Table Pouncer’s favourite places to grab a slice in Bournemouth.

Bournemouth Pizza Co. is not only one of the best pizza restaurants in Bournemouth, it’s one of the best restaurants of any kind and has won over loads of customers with its authentic stone-baked pizzas. Pizzas are rustic and cooked to perfection. A meal here is quite cheap, too. Do make sure you book a table though - for a place this popular, the restaurant is a little on the small side. For something really special, try the Al Cinghiale, topped with wild boar salami, mozzarella and spring greens.
Bournemouth Pizza Co., St Swithun's Rd, Bournemouth, BH1 3RJ
La Piccola Italia is a brilliant restaurant. Their dishes are all fantastic and are super fresh, but it’s their pizzas that we are most interested in. Their pizzas come with a range of toppings, all of them very fresh and delicate - they’re a real treat. The staff are very attentive and make it a joy to eat the restaurant, which means this place is the perfect place to grab a bite to eat after a busy day at work. With all this going for the restaurant, you might expect it to be quite pricey, but you would be wrong. Pizzas clock in at £9, which makes them cheaper and infinitely tastier than the famous pizza chains.

Pizza Gourmet is all about handmade and authentic pizza. What’s unique about Gourmet Pizza is that it’s primarily a takeaway service that has a few tables inside, making it very much like the small pizza parlours of America. Pizza Gourmet offers a no-fuss experience, serving super fresh pizzas that are cooked to perfection. The bases are crisp, the sauce is flavoursome, and the toppings are inventive. Definitely check this place out if you are bored of the classic range of pizza toppings - the likes of the Java Jive (satay chicken, cashew nuts, spring onion and cucumber) are not to be missed!
Pizza Gourmet, 96 Cranleigh Rd, Bournemouth, BH6 5JL
Is there anything more delicious than authentic, wood-fired pizza? At Da Mario’s you will find just that; traditional Napoletana pizza served with your favourite toppings the truly Italian way. Napoletana pizza has been awarded DOC status which means it is of the highest quality and that is what is served at Da Mario. This small family run business prides itself on serving the freshest food using the best ingredients. Da Mario is currently rated as the top pizza restaurant in Bournemouth on TripAdvisor so you don’t just have to take our word for it!
Da Mario, 12 Queen's Rd, Bournemouth BH2 6BE
La Stalla is located just outside of the city in Wallisdown but still has a reputation as one of the best pizza restaurants in Bournemouth and its surrounding areas. Their delicious menu includes all your pizza favourites, like margherita, capricciosa and tasty calzones. Our favourite? The prosciutto and rucola, with tomato sauce, mozzarella, Parma ham, rocket and shavings of Parmesan. Delicious.
If pizza isn’t your thing then don’t worry, this Italian restaurant has a great range of traditional and authentic dishes including pasta, risotto and fresh meat and fish. This hidden gem is definitely worth checking out.
La Stalla, 270A Wallisdown Road, Wallisdown, BH10 4HZ
Amaretto is another Italian restaurant that has extremely modest prices. Classic topping combinations such as ham and pineapple appear on the menu, along with more indulgent toppings like mixed seafood. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a cheaper option that doesn’t sacrifice quality. We recommend the Pizza Inferno, especially if you like things spicy: it's a winning combination of tomato, mozzarella, pepperoni, olives, chilli and jalapenos...
Amaretto, Old Christchurch Rd, Bournemouth, BH1 1PH
Al Gatto Nero is an Italian restaurant that can be found in Poole, just a short drive from Bournemouth. This family run restaurant serves up all manner of authentic Italian dishes. Their pastas are packed with flavour, but their pizzas steal the show. They have a nice range of toppings on the menu, all of which can be prepared as a calzone, which is an alternative take on the classic pizza. We love the inventive topping combinations on the vegetarian pizzas in particular, such as the Pizza Caprino: tomato sauce, goats' cheese and mozzarella, with spinach, garlic, oregano and a boiled egg.
Al Gatto Nero, 372 Poole Rd, Branksome, BH12 1AW
If you like your pizza wood fired and Neapolitan (and who doesn’t?) then Baffi Westbourne is the place for you. Baffi Westbourne is amassing an excellent reputation for its delicious pizzas and has a range of ever-changing specials that take advantage of best seasonal ingredients. Baffi’s mantra is to keep it simple and keep it fresh: they use fior di latte, San Marzano tomatoes, fresh basil and organic olive oil on their pizzas and even offer a Nutella pizza for dessert!
Baffi Westbourne, 46 Poole Rd, Bournemouth, Dorset BH4 9DZ
It's all about the purpose-built stone-baked pizza oven and traditional hand-thrown pizza dough at Bellagio - while they offer pasta dishes and risottos, we love to visit for their pizzas. You can watch the chefs hard at work in the open plan kitchen while you eat, and the whole restaurant has a fantastic atmosphere. There's a huge variety of pizzas to choose from, from a simple yet perfectly done margherita, to the Imperiale, with its decadent topping of mozzarella, cream, chicken, king prawns, smoked salmon, fresh chilli and garlic.
