Forget fish ‘n’ chips by the beach: Bournemouth is home to some amazing restaurants, offering everything from fine steaks to locally sourced seafood. So the next time you’re in town grab a dining partner and head to one of these joints. You won’t be disappointed.
No list of the best restaurants in Bournemouth can be complete without including Restaurant Roots: a relaxed fine dining venue that offers no a la carte menu, just a selection of tasting menus for meat/fish eaters and vegetarians alike. We love the stunning presentation of the food and the fact that the menu changes so frequently - whenever you visit, you're sure to enjoy a new, delicious, innovative treat.
Restaurant Roots, 141 Belle Vue Road, Southbourne, Bournemouth, BH6 3EN
You probably won’t be surprised to hear the Bournemouth’s Cliff Top Restaurant is located on the top of West Cliff. The restaurant uses the best locally sourced produce to create stunning dishes like their roasted rump of Salt Marsh lamb with cauliflower puree, fondant potato, and mint jus and pan-seared fillet of sea bass with saffron & spring onion crushed new potato. This restaurant deserves its reputation as one of the best in Bournemouth and offers fine dining in a warm and relaxing atmosphere.

Pizzas don’t get much more authentic than the wood-fired Neapolitan pizza at Da Mario. Something of a Bournemouth institution, this restaurant is regarded as one of the best in the city. The owner, Mario, is passionate about Neapolitan culture and uses a secret traditional recipe to create his delicious pizzas. Da Mario is so popular that people travel from far and wide for this little taste of Naples in Bournemouth.

Prior to opening in January 2011, a Buddhist Monk blessed Tiien during a traditional ceremony which promised to bring luck to both the restaurant and its diners. While we cannot guarantee a life-time of good fortune, we can vouch for their menu, which is bustling with different flavours and textures.
Dishes such as Kor Moo Yang - which translates to grilled pork chops with garlic-pepper sauce - are carefully selected and prepared by head chef Pong Pang, who uses fresh ingredients and flavours. The restaurant also boasts a private dining room decorated in gold leaf which is well worth booking if you're throwing a party.
Tiien Thai, 105 St Michael's Rd, Bournemouth, Dorset BH2 5DU
Everyone knows the best the way to enjoy Chinese food is to order lots of it - and share with your fellow diners. That’s what makes Mandarin so special. It offers a selection of Oriental tapas, (£2.95 each or 3 for £7.50) which include appetisers such as prawn toast and spring rolls, to mains (sweet and sour chicken, duck in plum sauce and stir fried beef, amongst others).
So, the next time you feel like eating a champion's feast, grab a load of friends and head to this friendly haunt. You won’t be disappointed.
Mandarin, 194-198 Old Christchurch Rd, Bournemouth, Dorset BH1 1PD
It’s not just the Spanish that can do tapas, you know. Famed for its miniature portions of signature East-Asian dishes, Koh Thai offers a fantastic Asian tapas experience in a modern and tranquil setting.
Small bites include roast duck curry, mussels in crispy bacon, dim sum, Koh’s special crispy squid and a whole lot more. There is also an extensive cocktail list offering almost as much variety as the main menu.
Koh Thai, Daimler House, 38-40 Poole Hill, Bournemouth, BH2 5PS
A shameless steak haunt, Funki Griller sources all its main ingredients from local farmers, ensuring a fresher taste (and a little support for the local economy).
The menu focuses on meat in its most complex and rarest forms; expect well-crafted burgers or slabs of beef and ribs with a side order of beige delights -assuming it’s not a ‘cheat’ day. In case it isn't, you're just a short walk from the beach, so you can burn off those extra calories with a romantic stroll.
Funki Griller, 20 Exeter Road, Bournemouth, BH2 5AQ
Bournemouth Pizza Co pizza is made using fresh ingredients and cooked in a traditional wood fire oven, which produces a crisp thin base and crust – divine! Deliveries and takeaways are both available if you don’t have time to sit while you chomp, but there’s no better way to enjoy authentic Italian pizza than when it’s straight out of the oven. Just remember to bring your own booze.
Bournemouth Pizza Co, 44 St Swithun's Rd, Bournemouth, Dorset BH1 3RJ
Bournemouth is renowned for its seaside location, so it’s only fitting for it to have plenty of seafood restaurants. Step forward The Crab, one of the town’s most popular eateries.
The menu offers plenty of choice, from monkfish and eel, to “posh” fish and chips – a must try. And if, like us, you enjoy a tipple with your meal, the wine menu offers plenty of choice.
The Crab, Exeter Rd, Bournemouth, Dorset BH2 5AJ
This cosy, family-owned restaurant in Bourne Avenue is just a few minutes walk from the beach. Step in through the front door and you'll immediately feel transported to warmer climes with its beautiful decor, huge windows and welcoming service. Here it's all about the blend of Central European and British cuisine - we love their tender slow roast lamb shank, beautifully cooked steaks and decadent confit duck leg...
Miri's Restaurant, 53 Bourne Avenue, Bournemouth, BH2 6DW
"Artisan foods and fine moods" is what modern European restaurant The Larder House is all about - and we couldn't agree more. This low-lit restaurant is beautifully quirky, and even features a cocktail bar upstairs where you can enjoy a drink or two before or after your meal. On the menu you'll find everything from tapas and sharing platters to regular starters, mains and desserts...with choices including a rich beef brisket lasagne and desserts to die for (if their sticky toffee pudding or crumble are on the menu when you visit, don't leave without sampling!), The Larder House offers something for everyone.
