Bournemouth is a very popular seaside town that has some great restaurants. Because these restaurants are so popular, the TablePouncer team wanted to find the best seafood restaurants Bournemouth – the ones residents recommend. We’ve rounded up the results and put them together in this list, so now you can spend less time choosing a restaurant and more time getting your fill of delicious food!
The Crab is one of the best seafood restaurants in Bournemouth and the surrounding area and can be found inside the Park Central Hotel. The restaurant locally sources the freshest fish, getting it delivered to their doorstep 6 days a week. The Crab is very popular with fish lovers - the restaurant has a menu that is absolutely jam packed with delicious seafood dishes. The fisherman’s platter is a firm favourite amongst diners and the seared cod with crab creamed potato and pureed peas is a simple yet delicious plate of food.

WestBeach is another extremely popular seafood restaurant, and with good reason. This restaurant specialises in delicious fish dishes, with an emphasis being put on locally sourced ingredients. In fact, this restaurant is so good that it has won numerous awards over the years, and the restaurant has kept up its high standards. If you want the freshest fish cooked by expert chefs, this is the place for you. Prices can be a little on the steep side, but you really do get what you pay for here. The local oysters and lobster are truly fantastic.

Located within Poole's Salterns Harbourside Hotel, Salterns Bistro is a place where you can enjoy fantastic local seafood, with great views out over the ocean. The restaurant has a light and airy Mediterranean feel, and its outdoor terrace is a great place to dine al fresco on warmer days. The bistro style menu features plenty of seafood, from the traditional beer battered cod and chips to fresh tuna or the day's market special...and while not fish-related, we love their Sunday lunches too!

The Highcliff Grill can be found in the Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel. The restaurant, like the name suggests, is perched on top of a cliff that overlooks the sea. The views here are amazing, with it being possible to gaze out to sea whilst eating your meal. Only the best produce from Dorset and Hampshire goes into the dishes here, and the chefs have an extremely high attention to detail. Again, prices here a tad high, but there can’t really be any complaints considering how good the food and the restaurant location is.

Fish and chip shop Chez Fred has been serving Westbourne since 1989, and never fails to disappoint. The family-run business is passionate about quality, preparing their own fish, chips, batter and mushy peas on site each day, using only sustainable fish that's local where possible. Their fish is fried in groundnut oil and their chips in rapeseed oil for both health and flavour, and Mondays are all about gluten-free battered fish. Choose from cod or haddock as standard - and check the boards for the day's catch too, as there's always something new and exciting on offer!

Storm is a unique fish restaurant that can be found in Poole. What makes this place unlike the others on this list? The owner, Pete Miles, is a local fisherman. He catches the fish that then go on to be sold in the restaurant, or if he’s having a slow day, he has the contacts in the business to make sure that his restaurant always has the freshest fish possible. The restaurant is small and informal, with the atmosphere being made even more welcoming by the awesome staff. A real artisan treat, Storm is a fish lover’s heaven.
Storm, 16 High St, Poole, BH15 1BP
The Cruel Sea Bar and Kitchen is another restaurant pioneered by local fisherman Pete Miles. It is a charming bar and kitchen that has a very warm ambience. The bar looks impressive and really livens the place up. It also stocks a good array of wines and beers - perfect for washing down the tapas style dishes that the restaurant specialises in. Unsurprisingly, fish is a big part of the menu, and because dishes are designed to be shared, you have the option of sampling a few different fish within the same meal, which we think is great.

Shell Bay Seafood restaurant is an exciting bistro on the edge of the Isle of Purbeck. It overlooks the waters of Poole Harbour and Sandbanks as its opening hours depend on the weather so you must call ahead to check when it is open. A number of fishermen keep their boats on the restaurant’s mooring so we doubt that you can get fish any fresher in the Bournemouth area. The menu is based on what is available so you can be sure that you will have a truly special and unique experience.

With its black and white themed decor, the Shades Restaurant at the beautiful Edwardian Derby Manor Hotel is a lovely, stylish place to enjoy a great meal with friends or family. We love how relaxed it feels, and the fact that your meal is never rushed...and we love how much local seafood is on the menu too! Dishes change with the seasons, but you can expect the likes of a crab salad or cured trout to start, followed by local market fish with some fantastic sides, a whole native lobster, or (our favourite) the hot seafood platter which gives an amazing taste of the region's finest fish and seafood.
