Bournemouth’s location on the south coast means that it’s home to some fantastic seafood restaurants - but the town has so much other quality cuisine to offer too. Meat eaters are incredibly well catered for, with many a Bournemouth steak house offering top quality cuts of meat, cooked to your taste and served with a range of tempting sides. If you’re looking for a great steak in Bournemouth, read on: here are our six top picks...
We love the South American styling of Rancho Steak House on Poole Hill: with its wooden walls and flooring, splashes of vibrant orange and yellow and plenty of cow print throughout, it’s a fun, quirky and contemporary place to eat. The Argentinian theme can be seen in their menu too: as well as your sirloin, rib eye, T-bone, rump and fillet, we definitely recommend their Churrasco steaks with their mouthwatering garlic and parsley marinade.
Rancho Steak House, 17-19 Poole Hill, Bournemouth, BH2 5PW
Bournemouth Steak House has been open since 1983 and is still going just as strong today. Why? Well, it’s the combination of its great service and atmosphere, knowledgeable team and, of course, tasty steaks! Choose from a medium or large steak from a range of cuts, cooked to your liking - or a steak with a difference. We love the Steak Diane: a succulent sirloin steak fried in butter along with chopped mushrooms, onions and Worcester sauce, before being flamed in brandy. Delicious.
Bournemouth Steak House, 208 Holdenhurst Road, Bournemouth, BH8 8AT
We love the atmosphere at Funki Griller: it’s a smart and stylish place to enjoy some of Bournemouth’s finest steaks and seafood, and the open plan kitchen means you can watch the chefs hard at work. Their signature Griller sauce gives the steaks an amazing South African flavour, and there’s a choice of sides such as baked potatoes and basmati rice if you’re after a healthier option. And don’t forget the cocktails - there’s a Mai Tai or a Mojito with your name on it...
An Italian restaurant may not be the first place you think of when you’re after a juicy steak...but trust us on this one. Take a seat in their smart and intimate low-lit dining room, pick up the menu and you’ll find plenty of great steak options on the Carne (meat) section. A sirloin steak with all the trimmings, a fillet steak with a creamy mushroom and blue cheese sauce, a sirloin with capers, garlic, tomatoes, bacon and tarragon and served with a red wine and tomato sauce...La Strada’s a great place to try a steak that’s a bit different from the norm.
La Strada Ristorante, 20a-b Exeter Road, Bournemouth, Dorset, BH2 5AQ
Head Chef Ben Manners’ menu has a firm focus on seafood (try the rock oysters to start), but The Attic (so named because of its location in the roof) is a stylish, light and airy choice for a stunning steak lunch. The 6oz fillet steak and 12oz Porterhouse have to be eaten to be believed...and the same care goes into the sides too, with your chips cut by hand and fried to perfection.
The Attic Restaurant, 106 Banks Chambers, Penn Hill Avenue, Poole, BH14 9NB
La Stalla’s a traditional, cosy Italian restaurant with a buzzing and relaxed family atmosphere. You’ll find all of your regular Italian favourites here, from pasta dishes to freshly baked pizzas, but the steaks are to die for too. Whether it’s a simple grilled fillet steak you’re after, or a Filetto Rossini (the combination of fillet steak, red wine, Madeira and chicken liver pâté is a winner), steak fans will be spoilt for choice.
La Stalla, 270A Wallisdown Road, Wallisdown, BH10 4HZ
