Steak Edinburgh is home to numerous great steakhouses

Craving a steak? Edinburgh has plenty of quality steakhouses to choose from - take a look at our favourites below.

From rump to ribeye, fillet to flat iron, there are plenty of cuts to choose from when ordering a steak in Edinburgh. And that’s before you’ve chosen how you have it cooked, whether you want a sauce with it (and if so, which one), and which side orders to go for. Steaks are a popular choice across the globe - from British to French to Argentinian cuisine - and they’re a popular choice in Edinburgh too. Take a look through our guide to the best steak Edinburgh has to offer.

STEAK restaurant

STEAK on Picardy Place in the city centre is a seriously stylish place: walk in and you’d be forgiven for believing you’re in a nightclub rather than a steakhouse. Enjoy a regular steak or choose an on-the-bone option for extra flavour...and don’t leave without trying STEAK’s mouthwatering skin-on fries. It’s not just the steaks that stand out, though: peruse the extensive wine list for some fantastic choices that are a great pairing for their top quality cuts of meat.

Sharing steak at Chop House Leith Plenty of sharing options at Chop House Leith

Chop House Leith

The Leith branch of Chop House offers something a little different to many of Edinburgh’s other beefy offerings: all of their beef is butchered and dry-aged in-house. With its low lighting, simple design and range of craft ales and cocktails, it’s a restaurant that’s bang on trend - and the food offering is top notch. Steaks are the focus of the menu, cooked over charcoal and seasoned to perfection - we love the chateaubriand to share, and the decadent mac ‘n’ cheese on the side.

Kyloe Restaurant & Grill

In the heart of the West End, the Rutland Hotel is home to an award-winning steak restaurant in the form of Kyloe, named after an ancient Scots word for beef cattle. With plenty of natural wood plus its cowhide-upholstered seating, Kyloe’s focus is clear - and it’s a fun and relaxed place to enjoy a choice of prime Aberdeen Angus cuts. Try the melt-in-the-mouth Highland wagyu steaks - and see if you can bag yourself a window table for amazing views of Edinburgh Castle.

McKirdy’s Steakhouse

It was in 1895 that the McKirdys first made an appearance as butchers in Edinburgh and East Lothian - and a steakhouse serving their own meats was the next logical step. It’s perfectly located for Haymarket station and the staff are fantastic. Try the medallions of fillet when you visit: not only will you get to sample their succulent steaks, but it’s a dish that includes McKirdy’s award-winning haggis too, which shouldn’t be missed!

Steak at Los Argentinos Mouthwatering cuts at Los Argentinos

Los Argentinos

Simply decorated, with cowhides hanging from the walls, this Argentinian steakhouse in Newington showcases the very best cuts the country has to offer. Try the thick and juicy bife nacho (ribeye) or the mouthwateringly tender bifi de lomo (fillet). We love the fact that the steaks are available in a range of sizes to suit all appetites, and the mix and match menu of side dishes and sauces makes it really easy to customise your meal to your taste, from French fries to fried onions, bearnaise to barbecue sauce.

Los Argentinos, 28-30 West Preston Street, Edinburgh, EH8 9PZ

Wildfire

Steak and seafood are the order of the day at Wildfire in the city’s New Town: it’s a cosy, family-run place that we love for intimate date nights. Their Aberdeen Angus steaks are always popular, prepared and cooked simply but bursting with flavour and quality. Choose between ribeye, sirloin or fillet...or push the boat out and order the surf and turf to try their seafood too. The combination of a juicy steak and succulent garlic and parsley king prawns is not to be missed!

Wildfire, 192 Rose Street, Edinburgh, EH2 4AZ
