Zen restaurant

“ZEN Service is as good as the food at Zen

This Japanese restaurant offers a wide selection of dishes, from sushi to tempura, bento boxes and miso soup, as well as a selection of Japanese beers, spirits and sake - a favourite among natives and tourists alike.

Presentation is key at Zen: food is beautifully presented (as is the actual restaurant itself) while staff are worth their weight in tips thanks to their friendliness, knowledge and overall helpfulness.

7Bone Burger Co

Southampton’s answer to MeatLiqour, 7Bone is big on American-style burgers, grills and hot dogs with rather unusual names. Prince Charles is Overrated (beef patty, bacon, cheese, shredded iceberg, pickles, dirty spread), Shuffle to Straight Time (burger with kansas style fried onions, cheese, american mustard) and Frank’s a Weiner (pork dog, texan chilli cheese, minced white onion, american mustard) are just some of the creative monikers that will make you chuckle while you giving your order.

Turtle Bay

Situated in Guildhall Square, just 15 minutes from the main train station and close to West Quay Shopping Centre, Turtle Bay is the perfect place to grab a bite to eat before or after you indulge in a full-blown shopping spree. This Caribbean restaurant offers plenty of flavours and textures, and serves everything from curry goat and jerk chicken to shrimp and mango wrap - yum! If you’re looking for something with less fire (and calories) they also serve a modest but scrumptious selection of salads, including chicken, and prawn and mango.

Winchester restaurant

Located within the grounds of the Macdonald Botley Bay Park Hotel, Winchester has some big credentials under its belt. It was recently awarded the AA Rosette for its classic British menu and boasts amazing views of the countryside.

As you’d expect with a place of this calibre, quality is key. Vegetables and dairy products are sourced from local suppliers and there's also a bar where you can enjoy a tipple (or two) before taking your seat.

Steak and spice

This small and friendly restaurant offers both Indian food and steaks (hence the name) and sits just outside of town, so you won’t struggle for parking. Biryani and curry dishes are all on the menu, as well as slabs of cow cooked to your preference (the peppercorn sauce comes highly recommended, by the way). Downstairs you’ll find plenty of seating - and if you’re lucky, you may even get a ringside view of the chefs preparing the food - while upstairs is smaller and intimate. Perfect, if you’re on a date.

Rancho

This South-American steakhouse is decorated in the style of a ranch and offers prime cuts of beef marinated in delicious, exotic sauces. There are seafood, burger and vegetarian options available for those looking for something lighter, but if you’re in the mood for a champion's plate, opt for the Gran Parraillada, a mixed grill of lamb cutlet, pork chorizo sausage, rump and sirloin steak, marinated chicken and corn on the cob.

Rancho, 43-45 High Street. Hampshire, Southampton, SO14 2NS

The Cottage Inn

“cottage The Cottage Inn is beautiful both inside & out

Landlords Andy and Cheri have done an amazing job at transforming this place into a warm and cosy pub, complete with fantastic food and a wide selection of beers, ales and spirits.

The Sunday roasts in particular are popular with locals (meat options including beef, lamb and chicken), while a roaring log fire and backdrop of cheesy pop music help set the mood.
